Temple holds on at UCF for Dunphy's milestone win

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Mark Williams scored a season-high 16 points, A.J. Davis' putback at the buzzer was waved off, and Temple escaped with a 62-60 win over Central Florida on Saturday, providing a milestone win for Owls' coach Fran Dunphy.

After Davis and Shaheed Davis missed desperation 3-pointers in the closing seconds and the final basket was reversed after a review, Dunphy had his 517th win, the most in the history of Philadelphia's Big 5 coaches. Dunphy, who had 310 wins at Penn, broke a tie with former Temple coach John Chaney.

Quenton DeCosey's 3-point play with 1:46 left put Temple on top 61-58. Tanksley Efianayi cut it to one with a pair of free throws at 1:15 and after a Temple miss, Obi Enechionyia blocked Davis and then helped force Davis into a wild miss underneath the basket. Devin Coleman then made 1 of 2 foul shots for the Owls with 18.3 seconds to play, setting up the wild finish.

DeCosey had 15 points for Temple (14-8, 8-3 American) and Enechionyia had 14.

Efianayi and Matt Williams scored 11 apiece for the Knights (11-10, 5-5).
